Abstract - Brazil is one of the world’s biggest beef producers and its largest exporter. However, beef cattle ranching is a leading cause of deforestation and habitat conversion in the Brazilian Amazon, which challenges sustainable development. We adopted the triple bottom line (TBL) as a guiding theory of sustainability and assumed the necessity of a production system-specific approach. Based on an integrative literature analysis, we aimed to assess sustainability pillars in beef cattle production. The Web of Science, Scopus and Science Direct databases were searched for studies on mitigating the adverse impacts of beef cattle production before the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. We found 108 references in these databases, 46 of which met the criteria for eligibility assessment, and ten studies were selected for textual cluster analysis and thematic synthesis. The review shows emergent research themes on sustainability in beef cattle production. It also elaborates a conceptual model of the sustainability pillars in the technique, science, and social aspects of the beef cattle sector that may guide the managerial and political strategies for the beef cattle supply chain in Brazil and other emerging markets. This study indicates that sustainable beef cattle development requires new digital technologies and ideas about sustainable supply chain management, which provides human, environmental, and animal welfare. |

Abstract: This paper analyses through viability indicator a production system of sheep and/or goats model used by familiar farmers in Rio Grande do Norte and can be used to subsidize the decision-making about management and/or investment on activity. The used model of costs, revenues and results measure was the methodology utilized by Instituto de Economia AgrÌcola of S?o Paulo. Also, were utilized methodologies of analyses economic and financial to know the net present value, internal tax of return and the benefit/cost relation. The model was constructed to generate an average income of three to four minimum wages by month and the results were: area of 193 hectares, total investment of R$ 80,400.00, one hundred does, production cost of R$ 1.73 by kilogram of meat, selling price of R$ 2.20, profitability of 18.5%, 7.3 years for payment back about new investment ( 50% of total), monthly household income of R$ 942.07, financial internal tax of return of 23.7% and economic internal tax of return of 35.1%. The economic net present value was 39% higher than the financial and the benefit/cost relation was 1.27 under the financial vision and 1.45 under the economic vision. The indicators show a viability of the business, emphasizing the economic viability where the producers of sheep and goats contribute to the society since that they produce a net present value of R$ 49,700.00 and only take possession of R$ 35,700.00 MenosResumo: Este trabalho objetivou identificar o perfil desejável de exploração de ovinos e/ou caprinos praticada por agricultores familiares por meio de indicadores de viabilidade financeira e econômica da exploração, no Estado do Cear·, para subsidiar os produtores em suas decisões de gerenciar e/ou investir na atividade.
